Last day in Italy

Last day in Italy. I am writing this the next day after the events I am writing about, which happened yesterday.
I add this strange statement as I am trying not to let todays events colour the view I had yesterday
(very difficult) & as this is my only diary for this trip so I want to be chronologically accurate.
We left the lake heading North once more & again started climbing into the northern Italian Alps, again many steep, narrow,
winding roads, with many multiple hairpin bends. We have lost count of tunnels through mountains, many at 5 & 6 kilometres in length. To repeat myself again, the vistas have become more & more stunning in the alps.
Mid afternoon saw us arrive in Tirano Italy about 2 klms from the Swiss border. Anyone who has ever been to a ski town
anywhere in the world, would have no doubt as to why this town exists. We managed to get a bit of a dump of a unit, but it
was right in town, so a few more hours at side walk cafes & a couple more jugs of wine & everything looked better.
Right outside our window was a raging river of emerald colour water from snow melt. This noise from the rapids was
enormous, but strangely enough it was quite relaxing & did not keep us awake at all.In the morning we only have a 2 minute drive to switzerland.\
Not all the mountain roads were narrow. This one was quite good.

Yvonne in the back streets of Tirano. Note the very old religous mural above the arch.

These little 3 wheel utes are everywhere in Italy, even on the steepest alpine roads.

Another hilltop castle in a town we stopped at for morning tea.
