SWitzerland..... What can I say except I'm glad we did not come here first, because everything else we have seen would have
seemed like rubbish.
Within 1 kilometre the the roads went from total crap with hardly any maintainence to perfectly smooth, well maintained &
well planned.
The scenery became absolute picture postcard & road sides were clean & tidy. The wildflowers in the alps are in full bloom.
There are rubbish bins at roadside stops (there are actually roadside stops) & they even have toilets. There is less traffic
& the drivers are more careful & thoughtful. In Italy the few roadside stops were knee deep in rubbish as there were no bins
anywhere & there were no public toilets for the huge population. If you took more than three steps into the bush in
roadside Italy there were little piles with bits of paper around everywhere as people have nowhere else to go.
Today we drove about 180 kilometres & were in 5 countries. Italy, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria & for a few minutes in
Germany while looking for a hotel, although most of the day was spent in Switzerland.
All of these countries except Italy were clean & lovely (I hope I don't put anyone off Italy, as it was OK at the time)
Next Day... Last night we spent the night on the Bodensee in Austria(a very large inland lake), all very pretty & well maintained
Unfortunately the accomodation was crap city.
This morning we took the cable car to the top of the mountain where they have a zoo with many native animals kept in their
natural setting, we also took a couple of their mountain trails through some native forrest. The sound of cow bells is
everywhere as every cow has a bell & many of the bells are different tones, so as the cattle graze there is a cocophany of sound. We spent some time shopping in the town square & Yvonne bought another pair of shoes, which brought a smile to her
face (which made them a good investment) as I think she is missing the grand kids a little.
We have moved North west into southern Germany & found some beautiful accomodation for a change in Ostrach. The meal in the
B & B last night was to die for. No sign of the floods in this area that occured about a month ago.
Today we will continue our curve around the Bodensee through rural southern Germany & then back into northern Switzerland.
